Overview
Over the years, Southern governors have deliberated and collaborated on a wide variety of policies and programs aimed at enhancing regional growth and prosperity. These efforts generally fall into one of four issue areas:
Federal Priorities
At the federal level, SGA is working to make sure our governors’ perspectives are considered in the Congressional debate over reauthorizing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP) and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).
Regional Priorities
In other cases, SGA can serve as the neutral facilitator to help our governors work together to tackle regional priorities, identifying and connecting financial and human resources, aggregating and exchanging information about successful approaches and collaborating with interested parties and stakeholders to solve problems. The nature of the political process, paired with the complexities of these issues, requires SGA to continually review our efforts for consistency with our governors’ consensus views and needs. Accordingly, the policies, projects and goals discussed within this site are subject to change in response to various external factors.
