As with other key areas of regional importance, SGA’s member governors work collaboratively on health and human services programs designed to improve the overall wellness and well-being of Southern citizens, with special emphasis on the most vulnerable populations: children and the elderly.
At the federal level, SGA is working to make sure our governors’ perspectives are considered in the Congressional debate over reauthorizing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP).
At the regional level, SGA will continue to support our states’ efforts to combat the obesity epidemic and implement health information technology systems that can share information regardless of state boundaries in times of emergency.
