Under the leadership of 2009 SGA Chairman Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, the Southern Governors' Association will provide a forum for member governors to explore together federal, regional and state policy options for climate change and energy independence. The goal of this initiative is to start a dialogue between governors and their policy staff and energy advisors about the South¹s role in the Federal debate on climate change, opportunities to mitigate the impacts of climate change on a state level, and prospects for regional collaboration.
Efforts are underway to clearly define the scope of governors' discussions, and once we have reached an agreement, the particulars of the initiative will be posted here. By the end of 2008, our goal is to have a defined scope of work, including a clear timeline of activities. If you have any questions about the status of this initiative, please contact Jennifer Schwartz at jenniferschwartz@sso.org.
