The report was prepared by The Center for Climate Strategies (CSS) and supports VA Gov. Kaine's 2008-2009 SGA Chairmanship, which focused on initiating a conversation about how best to address climate change and energy security in the South.

As Southerners, we share a common perspective, and as governors and colleagues, we are able to work together to maximize our resources for the benefit of our individual states as well as the Southern region as a whole. Through SGA, each participating governor—as well as his or her entire staff—has a built-in forum for exchanging ideas, solving problems, identifying opportunities and pressing for a balanced and equitable state-federal relationship in many important programs.

Tourism Guide, Web Site Launched by Southern Governors’ Association

COLUMBUS, GA (September 15, 2006) – Two important and innovative tools developed by the Southern Governors’ Association (SGA) and designed to promote the South’s tourism industry were launched today during the Georgia Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Governor Sonny Perdue, who served as SGA Chairman from 2004 – 05 and focused his tenure on developing strategies to showcase the South’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, made the official announcement during his keynote address to members of Georgia’s tourism industry.

Southern Governors AddressS Emergency Preparedness

NEW ORLEANS, LA (July 16, 2006) – The 72nd annual meeting of the Southern
Governors’ Association (SGA), officially opened this morning at the JW Marriott Hotel in New Orleans, LA. Amidst a backdrop of massive recovery efforts following the 2005 hurricane season, the South’s governors heard from experts in disaster preparedness and emergency management during the first plenary session titled, “Improving Emergency Preparedness.”
