SGA Issues of Regional Importance

Over the years, Southern Governors have deliberated and collaborated on a wide variety of policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing the region’s growth and prosperity. These efforts generally fall into one of five issue areas: 

SGA’s Legislative Program for the 111th Congress
Each year, Southern Governors identify a number of priority legislative issues on which they would like to work together at the Federal level. These issues are chosen through a consensus-based process and have a specific significance to Southern states. For the 111th Congress, SGA’s legislative priorities are:

In addition to these legislative priorities, SGA’s general policies address a number of subject areas that have an important bearing on the South. Areas of concern include education, wellness, health IT, foster care, nuclear energy, clean coal, renewable energy, conservation of natural resources, workforce investment, insurance, emergency communications interoperability and spectrum, broadband infrastructure and water and sewer infrastructure.
