But education and workforce development programs do not always seem to line up with employers’ needs. This discussion will include key state workforce and economic development officials, as well as invited Corporate Affiliate member representatives. It will aim to identify key issues affecting workforce development programs and clarify both private and public sector views about the best ways to ensure the availability of a highly skilled workforce. | 12:45 – 3:15 pm | Governors in Action: Innovations and Trends Governors are at the forefront of identifying innovative ways to address a variety of practical and policy challenges. By looking to the ideas and approaches adopted by their peers, Governors can avoid “reinventing the wheel,” share the details of how they were able to achieve various policy successes, and identify areas that they may wish to collaborate on more extensively in the future. By special invitation, private sector leaders also will participate in this conversation with an emphasis on successful public/private partnerships. |

| 10:30 – 12:00 pm | Roundtable: Setting the Southern Tone on Climate Change Congress has begun to debate what federal actions should be taken to address climate change, while many states already have begun to act. As leaders in domestic energy production, Southern Governors will begin comparing notes on the initiatives they are spearheading in their own states, and begin the dialogue about what role the Southern region will play at the national level. |
